In past times years, a few overseas astronomical meetings have been held on the Remeis-Observatory in Bamberg, 4 of them backed by way of the overseas Astronomical Union. the 1st assembly was once prepared in 1959 and handled Variable Stars, the final one used to be held in 1981 and focussed on 'Binary and a number of Stars as Tracers of Stellar Evolution'. the current convention used to be geared up to commemorate the two hundredth anniversary of the start of Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel, who used to be born in Minden on July 22, 1784, and died in Konigsberg on March 17, 1846. whilst the plan for a global convention on astrometric binaries used to be provided to numerous colleagues, we got enthusiastic help and determined to pursue the belief. a systematic Organizing Committee used to be quickly demonstrated, inclusive of: Z. Kopal Manchester, u.K. S. M. Gong Nanjing, China (Chairman) M. Grewing Tiibingen, F.R.G. V. Abalakin Pulkovo, U.S.S.R. P. v. d. Kamp Amsterdam, Netherlands J. Dommanget Uccle, Belgium M. The assembly came about in Bamberg on the Remeis-Observatory, Astronomical Institute of the collage Erlangen-Nurnberg, from June l3 to fifteen, 1984. the subsequent associations generously supported the assembly: Deutsche Forschungs gemeinschaft, Bonn; Stadt Bamberg; Universitat Bamberg; Universitat Erlangen Nurnberg; college of Manchester.

L. BERNACCA The attitude reconstitution from the star mapper transit times and the processing of science data for the HIPPARCOS mission will be performed, independently, by two Consortia named FAST and NDAC. Summary information on the four Consortia is given in Tables VIII and IX. The methods for the preparation of the Input Catalogue and the algorythms to be implemented for data reduction have been proposed to ESA in 1981 in response to Announcements of Opportunities by all Consortia. In the open literature they can be found in the Proceedings of the FAST Thinkshop held in Asiago in June 1983 (Bernacca, 1983).

This is possible with close to 45 - For a certain mission length T there are certain discrete K-values which minimize the variation of the scan pattern with longitude. 0 e 0 • 34 P. L. The vector h(t) is tangent to the sphere at r (in practice at ro) along the great circle connecting r with the Sun position at time t. Actually it is h(t) = Iro x rs(t) I, where rs(t) is the Sun position vector. Let us consider two stars Ei and Ej separated by a measurable angle sij (Figure 3). The system of condition equations i,j = 1, ... , N ; (2) where linearization is obtained by using approximate catalogue values (-), can be solved in principle by least square techniques to obtain positions, parallaxes and proper motions.
